D2C is becoming a strategic growth driver

Direct access to the customer is becoming a strategic priority for many consumer goods manufacturers. The focus is not only on additional sales opportunities, but also on the desire for greater customer proximity, better data and stronger control over the customer experience.

At the same time, D2C is changing established sales structures and confronting companies with new decisions:

  • What role will their own sales channels play in future?
  • How can the right balance be struck between direct sales and retail?
  • What conditions need to be in place for long-term success?

Our new D2C study provides the answers. Find out which strategies companies are pursuing, where the greatest potential lies and which challenges need to be overcome on the path to successful direct sales.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about D2C

What exactly does D2C mean?

D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) means that manufacturers sell their products directly to end customers – via their own online shops, platforms or physical shops, without any intermediaries.

What is the difference between this and B2B2C?

D2C refers to direct sales to end customers. B2B2C combines this direct sales model with existing partner or retail operations – either in parallel or as an integrated part of them.

What role does retail play in D2C?

D2C does not automatically replace the retail sector. Many companies are seeking a balance: using their own channels to build customer relationships, gather data and enhance the customer experience – whilst the retail sector remains a sales partner.
